J.D. Hill first picked up guitar in high school out of love of alternative music. During college, he was the bass player for several bands at the University of Connecticut, including No Stars Tonight, The Red Hot Mammas, and The Recovery Process. The summer before senior year, he played with Safe Side Suicide, and started to sing and write original music. In the summer of 2003, he left the group and began recording solo material, which culminated in the full-length album “12 Steps to Killing the Past.”
The album represents a diverse range of styles for a solo artist, spanning material that varies from whimsical to dark. While never departing entirely from his roots in rock music, Hill brings in influences that range from alternate country to electronica to create a sound that evolves over the course of the twelve tracks. At home with catchy melodies and thundering guitars, the sound is instantly enjoyable but has enough substance to keep an intelligent listener interested.
Currently, I'm with a new band called "The Scarves." We're a rock trio featuring Rich Grant on bass and Doug Seitz on drums. We're working on finishing up a demo, and playing all sorts of bars. I still do coffee house gigd solo as well, host an open mike night in Bethel along with Kevin Gianni, and fill in on bass for the occasional recording session.
